Pathophysiology of acute uremia

چکیده
Pathophysiology of acute uremia Acute renal failure has traditionally been classified as Pre-renal, intrinsic renal, and/or Post-renal in origin. Careful scrutiny of history, physical examination, laboratory findings and imaging studies of cats presenting with signs of an acute uremic crisis usually provides adequate information to identify Pre-renal, renal and Post-renal components of uremia. Although these categories help establish cause and predict prognosis, they share many pathophysiologic features and are not mutually exclusive. Pre-renal azotemia develops as an adaptive response to any cause of reduced renal perfusion (e.g., hypovolemia, inadequate cardiac output, marked vasodilatation). Initially, nephrons remain intact allowing a rapid return to function once perfusion has been restored. If the patient remains uremic after Pre-renal causes of azotemia are corrected, they should be rapidly and thoroughly evaluated for intrinsic renal and Postrenal causes of azotemia.

Hemolytic-Uremic Syndrome (HUS) in Children — Causes and Treatment
Hemolytic–uremic syndrome (HUS) consists of a triad of microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and acute renal insufficiency (failure), with severity ranging from subclinical to life threatening. HUS, based on an etiological agent, can be classified into classic or STEC-HUS and atypical HUS. HUS is a common cause of acute renal failure in the pediatric population. In this article, ...

متن کاملEffect of parathyroid hormone and uremia on peripheral nerve calcium and motor nerve conduction velocity.
Peripheral neuropathy is not an uncommon complication of chronic uremia. Because parathyroid hormone, by raising brain calcium, is partly responsible for central nervous system aberrations in uremia, we studied the relative role of uremia, per se, and(or) parathyroid hormone on peripheral nerve calcium and motor nerve conduction velocity (MNCV). Studies were made in six groups of six dogs each,...
متن کاملThe fibroblast growth factor receptor mediates the increased FGF23 expression in acute and chronic uremia.
Serum FGF23 is markedly elevated in chronic kidney disease and has been associated with poor long-term outcomes. FGF23 expression is increased by activation of the FGF receptor 1 (FGFR1) in rats with normal renal function and in vitro in bone-derived osteoblast-like cells. We studied the regulation of FGF23 by FGFR1 in vivo in acute and chronic uremia in mice and rats. Folic acid-induced acute ...
